Had a run up to Harewood House today, though with it being half-term I realised it would be full of children! So, I decided to get there fairly early and wander over to the old church on the estate for some quiet (more info and pictures here http:\/\/www.visitchurches.org.uk\/Ourchurches\/Completelistofchurches\/All-Saints-Church-Harewood-West-Yorkshire\/<\/a>).
\n The church has been in the hands of the Churches Conservation Trust since 1978 and although still consecrated does not hold regular services. I\u2019d discovered the other day a guidebook of the church from when we\u2019d last visited and it reminded me that the church contains some superb mediaeval alabaster tombs of the estate\u2019s family.
\n The day was stunning, with most of the leaves turning every shade of red and orange but is was pretty chilly, and the church was definitely still and cold. However this did not matter as I had the whole place to myself for over half an hour. Time to investigate the stories about the occupants of the tombs and to have some peace. The church is larger than expected from the outside and even though much is stained glassed, it is very light.
\n After a mocha and scone, I again missed the crowds (they were all in the adventure playground and autumn activity things) and walked around the lake.
