Blog move!!

My blog has now moved to http://packardnet.homedns.org and is housed on my own server. This is because hopefully the Packard version of Springwatch (using a nestbox camera) will be broadcasting in the spring and it needs to have a direct connection from the TV card to t’internet.

I’ve also taken the opportunity to move to WordPress which I use for other sites I look after, and is a fantastic blogging/web site tool.

At some point I’ll work out how to get crabkey.co.uk to point directly to my server and therefore get rid of the rather naff homedns.org address. Not sure how to do that though without wrecking the email, which I’m don’t want to do!!

Just need the rest of the winter to work out how to do it . . . and some birdies to make their home in the nestbox . . .

  1. You should be able to make http://www.crabkey.co.uk a CNAME to packardnet.homedns.org and leave crabkey.co.uk’s MX unaffected – if you have control over the DNS, that is!

Good luck, ping me a note if I can help.

  2. Thanks! I’ve registered crabkey.co.uk through uk2.net who kindly want to charge me £20 a year for DNS management (other sites since I’ve registered with 123reg which it’s free for).

I’d forgotten about CNAME as on another site I manage I just point the domain to an ip address using an A record and had it in my head that I could only point the domain to an ip address.

Have just checked with the uk2.net support site and CNAME can be altered so I’ll see how I get on!!

    Many thanks, Neal
